We are super excited to have Staci Hart and her book, Deer in Headlights on our blog today!!
DIH is a light, fun read that will keep you laughing, tug at your heartstrings, and maybe make you change your panties. It’s steamy and sweary, a lighthearted romance with a Greek mythology twist.

Blurb:
What do the Greek gods do when they’re bored? Because they’re always bored, so humans are the perfect players in their games.
Aphrodite owns love; she hasn’t lost a competition on her turf in over three millennia. Apollo is on a mission to win. He’s counting on it to finally get the one woman he’s never been able to have. The two gods will choose their human players, and if Aphrodite can’t get them together before the clock runs out, Apollo will get his way. And Aphrodite couldn’t have that.
Lex and Dean are perfect for each other, they just don’t know it yet. Dean is a perpetual bachelor, and a brooding, beautiful rock star. Lex is always with a man, but she’ll never fully give herself up. Aphrodite has her work cut out for her, but if she can’t make it work, no one can.
The gods have their own drama. Apollo killed Aprhodite’s mortal love – they’ve got beef that’s been dragging on for thousands of years. Ares, the douchebag, is forever trying to pick a fight, and trying to get Aphrodite into bed. And Persephone, Aphrodite’s best friend, is the one person who Aphrodite shares everything with.
Follow the gods as they fight, laugh, cry, lose love, gain power, and make a mess with humans.

My Review:
Have you ever wondered what the gods and goddesses do for fun??? Well after reading Deer in Headlights... I can tell you. They play games with us!!! They make bets and wagers against each other of who can make or not make humans do what they want. Aphrodite and Apollo are going against each other in Deer in Headlights and poor Dean and Lex are their game pawns.
Dean is a bad boy rocker who changes bed partners like underwear. He has no shame in who he beds.... including his band mates girlfriends! His latest victim... the drummer... has had it and quits the band, leaving Dean's band on the look out for a new drummer. The band refers to Dean as Professor Panty-Dropper.... and he has a Doctorate in it too let me tell you!!! When Apollo has to find a man to NOT fall in love with Aphrodite's female choice... he knows exactly who to pick. DEAN!!! Underneath the bad boy exterior, is actually a little boy still hurt by the fact he never was shown unconditional love by his mother. His panty dropping ways are to guard his heart and the fact he hasn't found anyone worth changing for. Apollo has no idea that his pawn just may have a heart. ;)
Aphrodite chooses the I love you but I am not in love with you Lex. She has a gorgeous drummer boyfriend that she lives with. They have an amazing sex life, but there isn't any chills when he touches her or looks at her. Lex's boyfriend gets invited to join a band as a drummer... and guess who happens to be in the band???? DEAN! So now it is game on for Aphrodite and Apollo. Who will win this one? There is some major wages at stake since Apollo wants his love released from a prison that Aphrodite put her in.
It is sparks at first sight when Dean and Lex first meet. They are instantly attracted to each other and both know this is going to get them in trouble. Only problem is... Travis... the boyfriend. Lex is bound and determined not to hurt him and Dean has promised his band mates no more screwing their girlfriends. How long can they put off their chemistry? Will they or won't they??? Who will win the bet, Apollo or Aphrodite??? These were all questions that I was drowning on while reading this book.
Lex is a sultry sex kitten and Dean is.... Well.... Whowee Momma!!! Dean is Professor Panty- Dropper extraordinaire! I loved how the two felt the same connection at first eyeball and had me begging for them to finally JUST DO IT ALREADY!! I give Deer in Headlights 4 stars on the knock my socks off scale. I thought the author, Staci Hart, did a great job at keeping the gods/goddesses part of the story but still really focusing on Dean and Lex. I loved the concept of bored gods having bets to entertain themselves. I also enjoyed their parts of the story about their relationships and friendships and the way Staci Hart modernized them by giving them nicknames like Dita for Aphrodite and Perry for Persephone. It made the ancient Greek mythology not so ancient and allowed me to connect with the gods/goddesses characters as el as the humans that I love so much on this story.

About the Author:
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife; even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f, ends with k, and there a uc in there.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics. But let’s be honest, she’s mostly writing.

Excerpts from Darkride: Cicely
Ander seems to feel better, too. He jogs a little ways ahead of me, then doubles back, high-fiving the trees as he comes. “So,” he says, “your birthday. What are you doing to celebrate?”

I shrug. “You know, helicopter ride, movie premier, champagne toast at sunrise. The usual.”

His eyes are full of sympathy. “Mom working, huh?”

“For the caterers tonight, then she has a wedding to do tomorrow, so I’m sure she’ll be busy. But she might make a cake.”

“Oh,” he sighs, “your mom’s cake! Damn, that’s good.”

“She’s a pro,” I say.

“So,” he says, “what are you going to wish for?”

I’m suddenly glad for the shadowy darkness. It hides my blush. “Same thing I wished for last year.”

“And you haven’t gotten it yet?”

“No,” I say, “Not yet.”

“Well,” he says, “Maybe this is your year.”

Right now all I wish for is to be able to see the expression on his face, but the shadows hide it. Does he know I wished for him? Is there some hidden promise in his words? There can’t be. I mean, if he felt the same, why wouldn’t he just tell me? If he felt the same, why didn’t he kiss me back there, when his arms were already around me? He can’t feel the same. I put a little extra stomp in my boots, trying to crush out any spark of hope before it has the chance to catch. This is how I get hurt.

We walk for a while in silence. What is he thinking, I wonder? His face is unreadable in the half-light. Trying to see him makes my eyes hurt, and trying to understand him makes my brain hurt. Being best friends with Ander is like doing long division in your head all day. It’s like trying to follow a foreign film without the subtitles. How can Zoe say he’s straightforward when I feel like everything he says is in secret code?

The woods have begun to thin. Up ahead, through the trees, I can just see Ander’s house, as dark and elongated as the shadows around us. It’s the only house around, shielded by trees on every side. Ander used to joke that I was the “girl next door,” because my mom’s trailer is the next closest place, and we’re on the other side of the woods. Only the long gravel drive connects Ander’s house to County 13 and the rest of the world. Its gray paint is peeling and the porch sags, but there are yellow marigolds in the window boxes and a welcome mat by the front door.

I wonder who that welcome is meant for. I’ve never been invited in.

Without saying a word about it, we both stop a respectful distance from the yard, like there’s an invisible line I can’t cross. “Well,” Ander says, “I guess I should go in.” He looks up at the sky, then glances at the house. There’s a light on in the kitchen window. His uncle is home.

“Yeah,” I say, “I guess you should.” But neither of us goes anywhere. Ander takes a little swig of Gatorade. I take a deep breath. I almost hate to ask him, because I know he’ll have to say no. His uncle never lets him go out.

But I promised myself I’d ask him. It’s a new year and I’m starting it right.

Now or never, Cicely.

“Do you want to go out tonight?”
